The Choir were lucky enough to jet off to Asia for 9 days in September 19. We owe a huge amount to our lovely Benefactor, Juliette Liu, who made this trip possible.
The Choir performed in three venues: An open rehearsal at the University of Macau, a concert at Chan Tak Tai Auditorium at Lingan University, Hong Kong and a concert at the Chamber Hall in Shanghai Symphony Hall, Shanghai. This tour was particularly special as it was the first time the Choir had ever been to China! Unlike most of the Choir's jam-packed tours, this one was particularly lovely as we had time off to explore the wonders of Asia (albeit in the sweltering heat/humidity!).
Highlights included exploring the many Casino's in Asia's equivalent of Las Vegas - Macau and exploring the ancient sights of Macau, visiting Victoria Peak in Hong Kong (a truly once in a life time experience!), walking along the Bund in Shanghai, having drinks on a rooftop bar in Shanghai at an Alumni reception and going to the top of the Oriental Pearl Tower and standing on compeltely see through flooring! Some members of the Choir (including our very own Graham Ross) braved a night-out in Shanghai - rumour has it one of our tenors fell out of a tree and the Choir's first aid kit (for the first time in history) had to be used! We also enjoyed authentic delicious cuisine in every place we visited.
We were extremely sad to say goodbye to Toby Hession, Michael Johnston, Rhea Gupta and Jonny Nicolaides who have all served many years in the Choir. A special shout out to Oscar Simms, an incoming Music fresher who joined us on the last tour of the 18/19 season.
