MALTA - Gozo | Mdina | Valletta

Sun, sea, sand and Catholic churches. Thanks to a Maltese Research Associate at Clare College, the Choir gave its first performances in the balmy climate of Malta, with a steady schedule of Concert Day – Beach Day – Concert Day – Beach Day going down a storm with the singers after a very busy year!

Our ‘task’, as it were, was to introduce the quality of English choral singing (a-thank you!) to the congregations of Malta, for which we performed Palestrina’s Missa Assumpta est Maria, Allegri’s Miserere and a number of Ave verum corpus settings across the island, culminating with Faure’s Requiem for our final concert.

A tour to be remembered very much as holiday, with a little singing on the side!

After such a busy year, it was only right that we were treated to lazy days off on the gorgeous Maltese coastline. Local sights included the Azure window, the Ggantja temple and a selection of Malta’s finest cathedrals, and yet there was a particular enthusiasm for days spent swimming, lounging and watersports at the Golden Bay. Even the Dean of the College joined in on the fun, sipping cocktail after cocktail at the beachside bar.
