NEW YORK 2009

Concerts in NEW YORK CITY, GREENWICH CT and NEWARK

The 800th Anniversary of the University of Cambridge saw a celebratory gala run by ’Cambridge in America’ to which the Choir of Clare College were invited to perform. December was a wonderful time to visit New York and the gala, compered by Sir David Frost and including a memorable speech by Stephen Fry, featured the Choir alongside the Cambridge University Dancesport team and close-harmony group, Over the Bridge, made up of members of the Clare Choir. We sang music by two Cambridge alumni, Orlando Gibbons and Charles Wood, whose Hail, Gladdening Light was performed at the culmination of a spectacular light show. The opportunity to sing at the gala evening then led to two other concerts, the first in Greenwich CT, where former Organ scholar, Simon Thomas Jacobs, was based, and the second in Newark. The concerts featured both traditional Christmas music and other music for Advent.
