The Choir of Clare College, Cambridge
Tanya Houghton | harp
Michael Papadopoulos | piano/organ
Joseph Cowie | double bass
Graham Ross | director
The Choir of Clare College returns to Fenstanton once again under the direction of Festival Director Graham Ross for a programme of works drawn from the great English choral tradition that celebrate nature and landscapes, commemorating the 300th anniversary of Fenstanton’s most distinguished former inhabitant, Capability Brown. Joined by distinguished harpist Tanya Houghton, the Choir perform Holst's beautiful 'Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda' and Graham Ross's 'And since to look at things in bloom', a recent cycle of settings of five Renaissance poems, performed here for the first time in a version for choir and harp. In addition to other works by Purcell, Vaughan Williams, Stanford, Nicholas Maw, and many others, pianist Michael Papadopoulos and double bassist Joe Cowie join forces with the Choir for John Rutter's jazz-inspired 'Birthday Madrigals', fittingly celebrating that other great anniversary of 2016: the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's birth.
