The 2025 final of the the Clare College Song Competition, a biennial contest in the performance of Art Song, took place on Wednesday 7th May. Five duos from across the university took part, and the concert was adjudicated by international soprano Sarah Tynan, Director of Music Graham Ross, and sopranos and singing teachers Lyn Alcantara and Nicola-Jane Kemp.
Earlier in the day there was also a public Masterclass given by Sara Tynan to the finalists and one other duo who had progressed from the two previous rounds of the competition.
The winning duo – tenor Hugo Williamson of Caius College and his accompanist Daniel Blaze, Senior Organ Scholar of Clare College, will give a recital at St Martin-in-the-fields later this year. Second Prize was awarded to tenor Harry Gant of King’s College and his accompanist Isaac Chan, a Clare College undergraduate. The Pianists’ Prize was awarded to Calvin Leung of Trinity College.
