Graham Ross, conductor
The Choir of Clare College, Cambridge and conductor Graham Ross return to Bury St Edmunds with a programme that explores the rich tapestry of polychoral Renaissance works by composers closely associated with the city of Rome, interspersed with English motets, partsongs and childhood lyrics. Victoriaâs double-choir Missa Ave Regina caelorum and Lassusâs thrilling 10-part Eastertide Magnificat super âAurora lucis rutilatâ are heard alongside Stanfordâs The blue bird, Graham Rossâs arrangement of Abide with me, and John Rutterâs mischievous The owl and the pussycat. The concert begins with Allegriâs famous Miserere, composed for the Sistine Chapel during the 1630s, and closes with English works in celebration of music itself, including Edward Naylorâs soaring hymn How shall I sing that majesty. This is truly life-affirming music â join us for an unforgettable sonic experience.
